Our mission simple: education and preservation.

Education
The most important thing we do is teach. As the custodians of such a unique and historic rail collection, we have an obligation to our past and our future to preserve the knowledge of this industry. Fortunately, we have a passion for it!

We diligently research, organize, display, and discuss anything that helps to convey the history of trains and the culture surrounding it.

Preservation
This is the most complicated objective within our mission and requires the most resources. Countless hours are spent maintaining and expanding our collection and the infrastructure to support it. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure that our exhibits are not just safe, but will still be around for future generations to enjoy.

Our visitors play a critical role in this process. Without funding, we could not maintain or operate our facility. Every cent collected from ticket sales, merchandise purchases, and donations goes right back into the museum in order to keep our rail history alive!
